How do plants know when and how to make a flower? These are the questions I am trying to answer in my research, focussing on the role of transcription factors in these processes. Transcription factors are proteins that regulate the expression of other genes, thereby controlling intrinsic cellular processes such as differentiation and development. I use a variety of techniques to identify the targets of several transcription factors that are known for their role in flowering and flower development. These targets might explain how the transcription factors I am interested in are able to regulate flowering time and flower development.
