Presentation
I graduated in Animal Science in 1998 at SLU, Uppsala. In 2003 I received my PhD from SLU, with the thesis "Genetic aspects of calving, growth and carcass traits in beef cattle".
Today I am a Professor on Animal Genetics with special emphasis on breeding. I am Vice-Dean with responsibility for postgraduate education at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science at SLU. I am also a member in the The Scientific Council for Animal Welfare at SLU.
Research
I am currently leading a project where we are studying the effect of inbreeding on traits in Coldblooded trotters. I am also leading a project on the selection of beef bulls for crossing with dairy cows.
Besides that, I am involved in a project on sustainable breeding of Swedish warmblood horses (SWB) and in one on quality problems in pork.
In a recent project that I led, we investigated whether it is possible to select for the ability of trotting horses to compete barefoot repeatedly. Earlier projects include a project on genomic selection in Swedish beef cattle breeds and one on genetic diversity and selection in Swedish dairy cattle breeds. I have also been active in several horse projects, for example on genetic diversity within, and between, Nordic horse breeds, on gait quality in Icelandic horses, on the genetic background to performance traits in Swedish warmbloods (SWB) and on hypermobility in horses.
I am currently the main supervisor of the doctoral student Victoria Ekenberg, and assistant supervisor of Qasim Mashood and Sandra Bonow.
Teaching
I am course leader of Genetics and Breeding (7.5 credits) that is part of the Ethology and Animal Welfar BSc program at SLU.
