Presentation
Isabella Hallberg-Sramek holds a PhD in Forest Management and is a Researcher in Forest Planning. Her research and teaching examine the dynamic relationships between people and forests, including how these interactions have shaped Sweden’s forest landscapes in the past, and how contemporary relationships influence the forests of the future. She places particular emphasis on the ways in which these relationships affect the co-creation of ecosystem services, and the extent to which these services align with the expectations of diverse rights holders and stakeholders. A central concern in her work is how forest management can be developed to meet the needs of both present and future generations while safeguarding resilient and healthy forest ecosystems.
Keywords: forest planning, knowledge co-production, rights holders and stakeholders, future studies, sustainability science.
Research
Ongoing projects:
I am the project leader of the transdisciplinary research project WindyForests - Forests at the centre of the global green transition, funded by Formas. The project is co-producing innovative
tools, processes and pathways for sustainable integration of wind power in forest landscapes. The project is a collaboration between SLU, RISE and Umeå University.
I am a work package leader in the transdisciplinary research project SPARC - Sustainable solutions within shifting societal paradigms and a changing climate, funded by Formas. The project will aid stakeholders to adapt forest related decisions to climate change without jeopardizing other important economic, societal, and environmental forest values. The project is a collaboration between SLU, Lund University, Stockholm University, and Södertörn University. Project leader: Professor Karin Öhman.
I am a participating researcher in the interdisciplinary research project Multiple Choice of Goals in Forestry, funded by Formas. The project focuses on the voluntary transitions of private forest owners towards a multifunctional forest management. The project is a collaboration between SLU and Wageningen University. Project leader: Associate professor Fredrik Widemo.
Previous projects:
I was a PhD student in the transdisciplinary research project Bring down the sky to earth aiming to use forests to open up for constructive climate change pathways in local contexts, funded by Formas. The project was a collaboration between Umeå University and SLU. Project leader: Professor Erland Mårald.

Teaching
I am the co-supervisor of two PhD students carrying out studies on forest recreation and participatory planning. I regularly supervise bachelor- and masterstudents' thesis work. I also teach scenario analysis to forestry students.
