Short summary

Research on felines (both domestic and wild, including those in zoos) is currently limited in Sweden. This center will serve as a hub for research on feline behavior and welfare and as a platform for researchers both within and outside Sweden.

The aim was that the Centre for Feline Behaviour and Welfare could be a node for research within behaviour and welfare of felines and acts as a platform for researchers both nationally and internationally. The centre will incorporate additional stakeholders such as zoological parks, animal hospitals, organisations and businesses working to promote the welfare and natural behaviours of felines. The CFBW will be a place where research, education and consulting exist under the same platform.

Recently we have received funding from Djurskyddet Kronoberg to study human and animal interactions at a cat café in Stockholm. We will investigate how cats are affected by the café environment, and how visitors experience the relation to the cats.

During 2020 we have sent applications to Formas together with a researcher from Harvard University, Amanda Robinsson. Amanda have earlier studied interactions between cats and visitors in cat cafés in Japan.

We are looking forward to work for a better welfare for both domesticated and wild cats.
