Short summary
Bee pollination needs updated quality standards for bee pollination services in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. A Scandinavian partnership representing beekeepers, growers, advisors, vocational education and research has been organized to develop and maintain training programmes based on the standards.
Bee pollination is a prerequisite for significant parts of food production. In our countries, updated quality standards for bee pollination services do not exist, or they are in need of updating. The consequence is that quality training programs aimed at providers and buyers of these services are lacking.
Scandinavian project
Sweden and Norway lack standards used by farmers and beekeepers for pollination by honeybees. Denmark has done previous work on this topic, but the standards need both to be updated based on new insights and to become more precise.
Neither Denmark, Sweden nor Norway have relevant training programmes based on such standards.A Scandinavian partnership representing beekeepers, growers, advisors, vocational education and research has been organized to develop and maintain training programmes based on the standards.
The CerPol2 collaboration is organized across disciplines, professional roles and across three Scandinavian countries.
The project will develop standards for quality pollination in the most relevant Nordic crops with a focus on sustainable bee pollination. CerPol2 will also develop the tools to ensure that training and professional updating are easily accessible and that beekeepers and growers can work rationally together over time. We will develop vocational training programmes based on the fact sheets. SLU will lead the development of the vocational training programmes. The SLU project leader Lotta Fabricius Kristiansen is both an active beekeeper and professionally connected to the SLU branch of education aimed at developing advisory skills.
Expected results
We expect the project to result in.
- 50 fact sheets with recommendations for bee pollination.
- A tested in-depth course aimed at experienced beekeepers who will be awarded the status of delivering "Certified
Pollinationservice"
- A tested introductory learning modules for a wider target group, incl. as a module for VETs.
- A open digital platform for interaction and education resources
- A partnership agreement for the management and future development of the standard and the training programmes.
