Do you have a healthy cat and want to contribute to research?

Do you live in the Stockholm or Uppsala area? Do you have a healthy adult cat with no illnesses or medication? We are looking for healthy cats for a diabetes study: one short visit with free blood sampling at SLU University Animal Hospital in Uppsala or AniCura Bagarmossen in Stockholm.

We are looking for healthy adult cats for a research study

At the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory (UDS, Uppsala), we are conducting a PhD project in which we are developing and evaluating new methods for measuring insulin and long-term glycaemic markers in cats. The aim is to improve the diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes in cats. To be able to interpret results from cats with disease, we first need to compare them with samples from healthy cats.

We are looking for owners of healthy cats being currently or for the last six months healthy, and that are not receiving any medication.

What does participation involve?

Participation involves a clinical examination and blood sampling of your cat on one occasion. The visit takes approximately 30 minutes. Your cat should be fasted for at least 8 hours before the visit (for example, overnight before a morning appointment).

What do you receive as a cat owner?

There are no costs associated with participating in the project. Your cat will receive a clinical examination, blood sampling and laboratory analyses free of charge, including a long-term blood glucose marker (fructosamine), glucose, kidney function (creatinine), liver marker (ALT), total protein and albumin. You will receive the laboratory results via e-mail.

You may choose to withdraw from the study at any time. All collected information will be handled confidentially and used solely for research purposes.

Would you like to contribute to the future of diabetes diagnostics in cats?
