Short summary

Every year, significant amounts of food are wasted by Swedish households. This project seeks to develop strategies for food waste reduction.

In the project, each recruited household installs an automatic digital tool collecting data on food waste. Collected data will serve as a bases for household specific feedback. The aim is to determine whether such information can lead households to waste less food.

There are several expected project outcomes:

  • A methodology that can revolutionize how household food waste data is collected.
  • Insight into what socio-economic factors influence food wastage.
  • Insight into how feedback can be tailored to specific target groups.
  • An evaluation of how effective these measures are for reducing environmental impact.

Since more simplified measurements can be used for providing households with feedback on food waste quantities, the results from the project could be implemented at a larger scale. Thereby, the project could contribute to food waste reduction and reduced environmental impact from households.
