Short summary
The project brings together researchers and stakeholders from across the food chain to jointly develop the feed of the future for production animals. The goals include producing and selling fish, pork, poultry, and eggs from animals fed with climate-smart, circular feed.
Feed for production animals has a large environmental footprint, and in this project, SLU, together with approximately 25 different partners, is evaluating the possibility of developing circular, resource-efficient raw materials for inclusion in animal feed. In the project, we are working with innovative raw materials such as insects, fungal mycelium, and mussels from the Baltic Sea. The goal is to strengthen the production capacity of circular feed in Sweden so that it will be available also after the project ends.
The project is broad in scope, and several research groups at SLU are working on issues related to different animal species or feed raw materials. Partners throughout Sweden are involved in the project, which also aims to demonstrate what the feed of the future might look like and contribute to a tasty final product.
The project is funded by Vinnova and is part of the “Challenge-driven innovation” initiative. The project's approach is that solutions developed within the project will in the future be able to be carried forward independently by independent actors working for the feed of the future.
The project is led by Axfoundation and SLU and brings together a broad range of sub-projects and expertise that collaborate across subject areas.
