Short summary

FRAS aims to develop and share evidence-based knowledge on forest management for sustainable forestry in southern Sweden. This is done in close collaboration with the regional forest industry and in dialogue with other stakeholders affected by forestry.

The research program Future Forest Management in Southern Sweden II (FRAS II) is a continuation of the FRAS program (2018–2021). Both FRAS and FRAS II are carried out in collaboration between three research organizations—Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Linnaeus University (LNU), and Skogforsk—together with the forest industry in southern Sweden. FRAS II runs from 2023 to 2026.

FRAS and FRAS II are the first programs to unite forest research in southern Sweden under a single initiative.

Purpose and Goals

FRAS II builds on the knowledge, collaborative models, and research infrastructure developed in the first FRAS program. Its purpose is to further advance forest management in southern Sweden and adapt it to current and future needs and conditions. The program also aims to support the implementation of new research findings and increase interest in the field of forest management. The subject-specific goals are to identify methods for establishing and managing heterogeneous forests, adapt forest management to a changing climate, and balance timber production with other ecosystem services.
