Short summary
LOWINFOOD supports reduction of food waste by demonstrating innovative solutions that involve actors along entire value chains for fruit and vegetables, bakery products, and fish. It also involves in a-home and out-of-home consumption.
The project consortium includes universities, research institutes, start-ups, foundations, associations, and companies working in the food sector. Expertise from all relevant scientific and technical areas is represented: innovation, demonstration, knowledge transfer, dissemination, policy advice, and marketing strategy. A main feature of the project is co-design; actors of the researched food chains are taking part in designing solutions for reduced food waste.
Proposed solutions are already tested as prototype in lab or in a relevant environment. In LOWINFOOD up-scaled versions will be designed, and then demonstrated and evaluated for their efficacy in reducing food loss and waste. Reduced food loss means reduced environmental impact, but also improved socio-economic performance in a value chain.
