Managing Events and Extremes in Water Supplies (MEWS)

Short summary

The MEWS project aims to assess how current and future hydroclimatic extreme events affect drinking water quality, focusing on both inflows and the transport and processing of nutrients and organic carbon as they move toward the water supply intake.

The project will be developed in collaboration with stakeholders and will increase understanding of how extreme precipitation, drought, and antecedent hydrological and limnological conditions interact with climate change to affect water quality. To investigate the impacts of future extreme events, the project will develop a freely available modelling tool.

Lake Mälaren is one of the studied lakes in the project.
