Short summary

Nordic BioBuz is a completed project that explored synergies between offshore wind power, enhancement of marine ecosystem services and mussel farming in the Baltic Sea.

Nordic BioBuz explored synergies between offshore wind power, enhancement of marine ecosystem services and mussel farming in the Baltic Sea. Materials and structures that can promote the colonisation of species in offshore wind farms were installed and monitored with regard to the establishment of the habitat-forming and other species. A method for marine biodiversity credits was developed and illustrated for the species observed. The project also developed a scenario for a business model that integrates revenues such as biodiversity credits and mussel farming for the sale of energy with a biodiversity premium (‘dark green energy’).
