Short summary

As for the plant nutrient phosphorus (P), a substantial over-supply is often the practice in growing plants. There are good reasons for increased accuracy when it comes to P supply, instead of a general over-supply. By only supplying the amount needed by the plant, not only can P be saved, the growth of the plant can also be controlled by applying a limited and controlled P deficiency. Controlling the growth to avoid excessive elongation is desired for ornamental plants.

Supplying P with high precision in amounts adapted to plant uptake can improve the quality of the produce, and reduce the need for applying chemical plant growth retardants.
