Short summary
A research project set to help stakeholders adapt forest related decisions to climate change without jeopardizing other important economic, societal, and environmental forest values.
Forest use research and decision-making need to be viewed in light of the ongoing climate crisis, biodiversity and the well-being of people. This requires inter-disciplinary analyses that map out conflicts and possible synergies between different targets. Also, present how to reach national and international environmental goals through adaption and integration of different forest policy measures.
The overriding aim of SPARC is to develop science-based sustainable solutions for reconciling conflicting demands placed on the forest landscape, within changing climate and societal paradigms.
Specifically, we will answer the following questions:
- What is the impact of climate change on forest growth, other ES and biodiversity, and what are the related uncertainties?
- How strong are the trade-offs and synergies between different dimensions of sustainability in a changing climate?
- Which climate-smart forest management solutions are successful in combining multiple sustainability dimensions and diverse stakeholder priorities?
- Which policy instruments are needed to support the implementation of the identified solutions?
