Short summary
The premise of this project is that strategies to achieve food preparedness cannot be handled separately from strategies to achieve food system sustainability. Food systems research will be combined with agricultural and food economics, behavioral insights, and psychometrics.
The aims of this project are to conceptualize sustainable preparedness in agriculture, to develop indicators that can be used to evaluate the current status and monitor progress towards sustainable preparedness, and to investigate how public and private policies can support transition towards sustainable preparedness in agriculture.
Our food systems are susceptible to disruptions, as evidenced by recent events such as the drought in Northern Europe in 2018, the COVID-19 pandemic, and most recently, the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. This has led to an increased awareness of the importance of improved food access and food production preparedness in times of crisis. At the same time, food systems are not inherently sustainable and require development to ensure environmental, social, and economic sustainability on both a global and local scale.
The agricultural component of food systems is the focus, concentrating on Swedish agriculture. However, the results will also be relevant for exploring Sweden's potential contribution to global food supply and insights into how global food supply can become more sustainable.
