Short summary
A focus group study of young women and men in the Natural Resource Use Program with a focus on forestry, aiming to increase knowledge about how the next generation of forestry workers views their future in the forest.
In this project, we are interested in how high school students view their future in the forestry sector and how perceptions of who does what in the forest may influence their thoughts about the kinds of work they can pursue in the future.
We seek a deeper understanding of the paths that have led to an interest in forestry and what opportunities the students see within the sector. We also aim to gain greater insight into how they perceive the conditions for men and women in the forestry industry and how they view their own opportunities to work in various fields. The questions we ask are:
- What influenced their decision to pursue an education in the forestry sector?
- What thoughts do they have regarding specialization, career paths, and future opportunities and challenges?
- What explanations do the students see for the gender-coded division of competencies that seems to exist in forestry, and what possibilities do they see for challenging or changing that division?
