SLU Bioinformatic Infrastructure
SLUBI is SLU’s central resource for bioinformatics expertise, training, and support. Its mission is to strengthen bioinformatics capacity within SLU and to enable high-quality, reproducible research.
The team is based across SLU’s three campuses — Ultuna, Umeå and Alnarp — and supports researchers throughout the university by coordinating teaching, access to computational resources, and connecting SLU to national bioinformatics initiatives.
Project Support and Data Analysis
SLUBI offers support at all stages of research projects, from experimental design and data management to analysis and interpretation. The team helps researchers choose appropriate analytical methods, set up workflows, and solve problems that may arise during data processing. They have expertise in a wide range of biological data types, including genomics, transcriptomics, and metagenomics, and can provide both strategic advice and hands-on support.
Initial consultations are free of charge, while continued support is billed at 800 SEK per hour.
Access to Infrastructure
SLUBI facilitates access to Sweden’s national computing resources. This includes support with project applications as well as guidance on how to navigate high-performance computing environments and apply best practices when working within them.
Training and Skill Development
Training is a central part of SLUBI’s activities. The team regularly organizes courses, workshops, and seminars on programming, data analysis methods, and good research practices. The offerings cover both introductory and advanced levels, helping researchers at different stages to build the skills required for modern bioinformatics.
Learning Resources and Seminar Series
SLUBI provides a comprehensive range of online learning materials through its website and GitHub. These resources support independent skill development in bioinformatics and cover topics such as programming, data analysis, and research methodology. In addition, SLUBI organizes a seminar series in collaboration with the Centre for Statistics, offering introductory sessions on a variety of bioinformatics topics.
