Curious about what our students think of this master’s programme? Wisdom shares his experiences at SLU in this interview.

Why did you choose to study at SLU?

I chose SLU because of its focus on sustainability and evidence-based research, which aligns with my passion for improving food systems in Africa. The university’s practical approach to research and the vast opportunities for international collaboration make it the ideal place for me to deepen my knowledge and apply it to real-world agricultural challenges.

What makes your study programme unique?

My Master’s in Agroecology and Sustainable Agriculture is unique because it bridges science, policy, and practice. It explores entire food systems, environmental sustainability, and community engagement. We gain hands-on experience with real-world challenges, which equips me to address complex issues in both local and global contexts.

What’s the best part of student life at SLU? And what has surprised you the most?

The best part of student life at SLU is the sense of community and support. People are approachable, open-minded, and eager to collaborate. I’m also part of the Student Ambassador and Unibuddy teams, which has been amazing for connecting with prospective and current students. What surprises me most is the number of opportunities to explore beyond Sweden through exchanges, research partnerships, and networking with universities around the world. My time at Wageningen University and Research in the Netherlands has been a perfect example of that!

What advice would you give to students considering studying in Sweden?

Be curious, open-minded, and proactive! Embrace the practical, hands-on approach to learning in Sweden, and don’t hesitate to ask questions. Swedish student life encourages independence but also offers plenty of support once you engage. Most importantly, explore the culture and nature around you. If you’re considering applying to study at SLU, start now! You’re always welcome to reach out to me via the Unibuddy chat.
