What do you do for a living?
I wear two hats at the Embassy of Sweden in Abuja. I serve as the Embassy’s Communication and Promotion Officer, and I am also the Climate Diplomacy Focal Point.
What does that involve?
My work ranges from writing speeches and drafting social media content to planning events and engaging with partners. In essence, I promote Sweden’s image in Nigeria, help the Embassy identify the right local partners in priority areas, and position Sweden as a trusted ally in advancing Nigeria’s climate and sustainability goals.
How did you end up there?
I joined the Embassy in 2019 in connection with my grassroots involvement in Greta Thunberg’s Fridays for Future movement in Nigeria. Following my master’s program at SLU, I was eager to continue in that role, applying my new knowledge about Sweden to strengthen my work and deepen engagement on Swedish priorities in Nigeria.
Do you have any advice for those considering studying at SLU?
SLU offers a truly unique educational experience, one that is hard to find elsewhere. The diversity and dynamism of the student community play a vital role in broadening perspectives and enriching the interpretation of what is taught.
In what unexpected way does your job affect your private life?
Reviewing hundreds of proposals and meeting requests has sharpened my ability to make assessments or judge situations. Within seconds of reviewing a request, I can determine whether it aligns with our priorities or not. This skill has naturally carried over into my personal life, influencing how I interpret and respond to situations beyond work.
