Curious about what students think of this master’s programme? Anam shares her experiences at SLU in this interview.
Why did you choose to study at SLU?
I have always wanted to stay close to nature, and choosing SLU has been the best decision of my life - not only because it is a pioneer in sustainability and innovation, but also because its infrastructure, systems, and academic environment all clearly reflect a strong commitment to sustainable practices. I truly enjoy every moment I spend on campus.
What makes your study programme unique?
When people talk about the environment and related issues, they often think only within the frame of the natural sciences. Yet few consider how people, societies, organisations, and their interactions actually shape solutions for sustainable action. That is what our programme - Environmental Communication and Management - equips us with: the ability to engage through communicative strategies that help us move towards sustainable solutions and reduce the conflicts that may arise along the way.
What is the best part of student life at SLU? And what has surprised you the most?
I think the calm environment and excellent campus facilities are remarkable, as they help you stay focused and enhance your mental capacity to create original research and innovative solutions. Moreover, SLU fosters a respectful and supportive environment where your ideas are genuinely valued. Across the campus, you will find different kinds of seating areas for studying - whether it is a comfortable sofa, a cabin-style study area, a group study room, or a peaceful spot close to nature. You can choose according to your mood or the kind of work you are doing. SLU is also very close to a forest and a few ponds - perfect places to start your research or find inspiration for your coursework.
What advice would you give to students considering studying in Sweden?
I would say: always stay active - both physically and socially - regardless of the weather or study pressure. It will help you in the long run to develop a well-rounded experience and make the most of your time in Sweden.
