Short summary

This project will identify primary niches of biological nitrogen fixation in boreal forests of Sweden, Alaska, Canada, and Finland that differ in time since disturbance and tree species composition. Using this unique network of sites will allow us to pinpoint which nitrogen fixation niches are important at different times during boreal forest stand development. It will also reveal potential interactions between nitrogen fixers (diazotrophs) and soil fungi.
