Mål

The aim of the course is to provide students with deeper knowledge on classic and contemporary research perspectives in agricultural economics. The course builds on microeconomic theory applied to production decisions in agriculture and the theoretical knowledge acquired during the PhD s. It introduces key perspectives in applied economic analysis through a range of topics with application to agriculture and with connection to own research contributions.

After successfully completing this course students are expected to be able to:

Conceptualize and discuss classic and contemporary research in agricultural economics to describe forward-looking research directions and topics in the field. \
Relate the topics identified in 1) to own contributions, methodological advances and discuss limitations and research gaps. \
Apply relevant theories and conceptual frameworks for analyzing contemporary topics related to agricultural production, off-farm income, agricultural productivity, economies/diseconomies of scale, knowledge diffusion, spatial spillover effects and impacts of climatic extremes. \
Evaluate and interpret their own research contributions in light of theory and empirical evidence in the field.

Innehåll

Individual instruction seminar at the Department of Economics, approximately 2 hours

Own work, approximately 138 hours.

In total, approximately 140 hours.

Examinationsformer

Write an individual term paper. The paper will be assessed (fail/pass) based on how comprehensively it describes and discusses the ILOs and to what extent it integrates the student’s own research into the bigger picture of applied agricultural production economics.
