Data

The ICP IM database contains data on the variables in the ICP IM Monitoring manual.

Data are freely available under a Creative Commons BY  (by attribution) licence from the Researchdata.se repository (https://doi.org/10.5878/z376-2m63).  The dataset encompasses measurements from monitoring stations across 14 European countries, with temporal coverage currently extending for most sites from the 1990s to 2020, and is described in a data paper (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41597-026-07181-8). Citing this paper satisfies the “by attribution” requirement of the licence. Data management is carried out at the ICP IM Programme Centre at The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, in Uppsala, Sweden, and the dataset is updated with new data once per year.

Users may wish to consider inviting collaboration with ICP IM scientists for complex applications. Although this is not required by the licence, it may be helpful to make use of the extensive background knowledge and wide-ranging expertise that exists within the programme. We would also encourage actively sharing any results and publications with the ICP IM community to support the future development of the programme. Please contact the ICP IM Programme Centre with any enquiries

The data in the IM database

The IM monitoring protocol consists of 24 sub programmes, some mandatory others optional. Here is a summary of the content of the database, and the length of our time series.

Data submission

Data should be submitted by e-mail to the data management team at the ICP IM Programme Centre, through the National Focal Points in each member country. Deadline for data submission is decided at the annual Task Force meeting.

Data Requests

A small part of the dataset is not yet openly available (historical data from Belarus, Canada, Denmark and the United Kingdom, and current data from Poland). We hope to add these to the open database as soon as possible, but in the meantime please submit a request stating which parameters or subprogrammes, locations, and periods you are interested in to im-database@slu.se.
