The Department of Biosystems and Technology develops knowledge and technology that makes the food systems of the future more sustainable, efficient and resilient.

We combine biology, technology and systems analysis to understand and improve production in greenhouses, fields and stables.

The department has a broad competence profile in agricultural and horticultural crop production, agroecology, bioenergy, technology, animal welfare, resource utilization, environmental impact and safe food.

Teaching is mainly conducted within the agroecology (MSc program, 120 credits), horticulture (300 credits), agricultural (180 credits) and horticultural management programs (180 credits).

We research and educate to

• reduce the negative environmental impact of food production,

• improving animal welfare and production environments;

• use technologies that increase resource efficiency;

• strengthen the resilience of food systems to climate change;

• contribute with independent knowledge to society, authorities and business

• develop sustainable production systems and innovative solutions for horticulture and horticultural crop production.
