Education at the Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology
We are involved in the Bachelor's programme Forest Sciences ("skogsvetarprogrammet") and the Master’s Programme in Plant Biology for Sustainable Production. As part of Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC), we also contribute to the Master's Programme in Plant and Forest Biotechnology at Umeå University.
Plants are of great importance, not only as food and animal feed but they also provide building materials, fibres and pharmaceutical drugs. To enable durable plant production and contribute to sustainable development, in-depth knowledge of plant function, genetics and interactions with the environment is required.
Within the Forest Science Programme ("skogsvetarprogrammet"), we teach tree biology, genetics and evolution, wood- and biochemistry, as well as applied tree breeding and biotechnology.
We are also involved in teaching two master's level programmes, one at SLU and one at Umeå University. These master’s programmes give specialized competence and skills to recognize, understand and find solutions for sustainable production in agriculture and forestry. As a student in either of the programs you will benefit from the close connections to the research at UPSC.
