National Targeted Forest Damage Inventory

With more damage outbreaks expected as a result of climate change, the need for precise regional information on forest damage is increasing. NRS is a flexible, action-oriented forest damage survey which enables forest damage estimates for a specific targeted area and damage.

Key facts

The NRS is conducted in collaboration between SLU, the Swedish Forest Agency (SKS), and the forest industry, and serves as a complement to the annual monitoring of major damage outbreaks carried out through the National Forest Inventory. The survey is action-oriented, with a specific focus determined before each field season. By conducting the survey at an appropriate time and within a limited area, the ability to provide meaningful and relevant information on current damaging agents with high precision is improved. The objectives of the targeted surveys may vary from year to year, depending on which types of damage are most relevant at the time and where there is a clear need for information.

Currently, the older dataset is being transferred to SND (the Swedish National Data Service).
