Unit for Collaboration and Development

We are the LTV Faculty's collaborative support resource. Our mission is to initiate, coordinate and co-finance research and development projects in collaboration with internal and external partners. We develop and implement training programmes, create meeting places and networks.

Our activities

The purpose of SLU Partnership Alnarp is to strengthen the competitiveness of the agricultural, horticultural and forestry sectors and contribute to sustainable development, while also enhancing SLU’s research and education.

Activities
By addressing current challenges and leveraging the opportunities provided by research, it creates foundations for developing sustainable solutions, research, and education. Within SLU Partnership Alnarp, dialogue activities, research projects, student degree projects, knowledge transfer are carried out in collaboration between academia and about 100 members organisations.

The centre aims to promote a knowledge-based, more sustainable and resilient food system that supports long-term economic growth and societal development.

Through outstanding research and education, the centre will collaborate with industry and public actors to develop, disseminate and utilise knowledge and new solutions for a transition that balances economic, ecological and social sustainability.

    Four overall target areas
The centre has four overall target areas for its activities:

    • Increased knowledge and innovation for increased sustainability in primary production
    • Increased collaboration in research and development
    • Higher level of technology in research, education and industry
    • Strengthening Skåne's contribution to the development of primary production in Sweden

The centre will contribute to creating collaborations to utilise expertise and resources that will ultimately lead to even better results in primary production companies and in research and education.

    About Swedish primary production
Primary production is the first link in the food system, often taking place at farm level in agricultural and horticultural businesses. This link includes, for example, the production of fruit and vegetables, cereals, rapeseed, legumes, meat, eggs and milk.

Agriculture provides us with food and also makes vital contributions to the ecosystem. At the same time, production has a negative impact on the environment that can be reduced. One example is biodiversity, another is greenhouse gas emissions, and the industry is clearly challenged by climate change. Primary production companies also face challenges in terms of economic sustainability. This is necessary in order to increase production, attract labour and invest in sustainable production as a whole.

The goal in Sweden is to become more self-sufficient in food, not least as part of preparedness, while competition for land use is increasing. All this makes the need for knowledge and innovation in the agricultural and horticultural sector an important social issue.

    Facts:
The centre will be established in 2025 at SLU in Alnarp and will be financed equally by SLU and Sparbanken Skåne, through its owner foundation Finn. The budget for the first five years is SEK 50 million. The concept of ‘sustainable’ includes the three perspectives of economic sustainability, ecological sustainability and social sustainability.
