Environmental politics and governance

Page reviewed:  27/10/2026

At the Division of Environmental politics and governance we study how contemporary environmental and sustainability challenges are imagined, known and governed across multiple sites, empirical domains, and actor constellations.

Researchers, analysts, and environmental advisors work here, and the activities span many areas within both natural and social sciences.

The department encompasses the research and doctoral subject of Political Science, as well as a research group focused on various policy and governance issues related to environmental and sustainability challenges.

The division is home to the Unit for Environmental Integration that works for an increased environmental integration in various sectors in society and participates in the education and research projects at the department. The unit manages Sida’s Helpdesk for Environment and Climate Change - a collaboration between Sida (The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency), SLU, and the University of Gothenburg. Its purpose is to support the integration of environmental issues into Swedish development cooperation.
