Theme 1: Social and economic dimensions of smallholder based agriculture and food security
Raising smallholder productivity, combatting hunger and improving rural livelihoods require interventions to improve technology use, enhance women’s participation and stimulate inclusive and efficient markets. Capacity building and translating research into policy are the main objectives. -
Theme 2: Multifunctional landscapes for increased food security
This theme is interdisciplinary and covers all cross-cutting issues of the programme; sustainable intensification of agriculture, the central role of women and young people in agriculture, and access to markets and value chains. -
Theme 3: Increased productivity and diversity in smallholder cropping systems for increased food security
This theme work for increased food security through sustainable increased productivity and diversity in smallholder cropping systems. -
Theme 4: Livestock-keeping among smallholders for a nutritious diet and increased food security
This theme aim to fight nutrient deficiency by increasing productivity in animal production, find mechanisms to facilitate inclusion of poor smallholders in markets to ensure profitable sale of their products and develop animal production systems and markets that benefit women and young people.

First African conference on edible insects
The first African Conference on Edible Insects aimed at consolidating innovations, research and industrial development on edible insects for transformation of livelihoods in Africa.
Scientists, academics, students, investors, policy-makers, communities and all interested parties in edible insect research and development, consumption and industrial utilization were invited.
