Our aim is to advance responsible animal management, welfare, and sustainable food production while ensuring high product quality. Through research and education, we focus on feed and nutrition, management and environment, ethology and animal ethics, as well as animal welfare and protection.

    Feed rations in dairy production and their climate footprint

    Markos Managos has studied how feed rations based on raw materials with low climate impact can reduce greenhouse gas emissions from milk production without compromising milk yield.

    Extended lactations in multiparous dairy cows

    The aim of this project was to investigate the effect of extended calving intervals on fertility, milk production, and culling in the second lactation, as well as the relationship between calving intervals, milk yield in the second lactation, and cow mortality during the first month after calving.

    The Global Farm Platform (GFP), a network of research farms on six continents, has received prestigious technical recognition from the UN agency FAO. The farms, three of which are at SLU, contribute to more sustainable livestock production through experiments and demonstrations.
