SLU Soil moisture map can be viewed through the Swedish Forest Agency's map service and their mobile-adapted web app. Select ‘Val av karta’, ‘Skoglig grunddata - mark’ and finally ‘Markfuktighet’.

The SLU Soil Moisture Map show how wet or dry the Swedish forest landscape is. The maps are produced using artificial intelligence (AI). By combining information from several different maps and then training a computer model with field data from SLU's National Forest Inventory, topography, climate and soil types can be used to estimate soil moisture in different parts of the landscape.

The soil moisture maps is primarily intended for use in forestry planning, but can also have other uses.

There are two different versions of the soil moisture map, one showing moisture on a scale from 0 to 100, and one showing soil moisture in three classes (wet-damp, moist-fresh and fresh-dry). The maps are available for the whole country and have a resolution of two by two metres.

SLU Soil Moisture Map is developed and produced by William Lidberg and Anneli Ågren at the Department of Forest Ecology and Management, SLU in Umeå. The product is a co-processing of map data from Lantmäteriet, SGU and SMHI, as well as field data from the National Forest Inventory.

The Soil moisture maps can be downloaded from the Swedish Forest Agency's FTP server and can be accessed through their REST service. Employees and students at 29 Swedish universities and colleges can also download the maps via SLU's download service GET.
