SLU Fältforsk

SLU Fältforsk is a joint body between the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and external stakeholders in the agricultural sector. SLU Fältforsk's main tasks are to coordinate the planning of national field research and the processing of results, as well as to ensure the quality of methods and techniques used both in the field and in laboratories.

  • We develop the national field trial operations.
  • We ensure the quality of methods and the planning of field trials.
  • We coordinate the processing of results and data storage.

Eight theme groups

Our theme groups are meeting places for everyone interested in field research questions within the area of responsibility of the specific theme group. The aims are to identify research areas where new or more information is needed, to initiate research applications, and to work with dissemination of information and results from field experimental research.

Soil Management

Knowledge about how different measures affect soil structure is essential for developing sustainable tillage strategies. The committee addresses issues such as soil compaction, soil structure, crop establishment, and more.

Cultivation Materials

We coordinate crop variety trials conducted to evaluate the different characteristics of each variety. The committee also shares knowledge on crop varieties, cultivation techniques, and variety testing.

Cropping Systems

The committee focuses on how cropping systems influence crop production, product quality, the environment, and resource efficiency. This includes the interactions between crops, the environment, and cultivation methods.

Weed Control

Weeds compete with crops for light, water, and nutrients, leading to lower yields and reduced quality. It is important to keep weed levels under control. This committee focuses on issues related to weeds.

Forage Crops

Forage crops are the most common crops in Sweden. It is used as feed milk and meat production. This committee focuses on research and field trials aimed at producing the highest-quality animal feed possible.

Water Management

We work with research, field trials, and collaboration in the areas of water quality and water management. This knowledge is essential for developing sustainable cropping systems in a changing climate.

Plant Nutrition

Crops need nutrients for growth and development. Understanding the factors that influence soil fertility and nutrient availability is essential for sustainable agriculture. The committee focuses on issues related to plant nutrition.

Plant Protection

Plant diseases and insects can reduce both yield and quality. It is important to develop strategies that reduce the risk of crop damage. The committee works with issues related to plant protection.
