We study the interactions between chemical, biological, geological and physical processes governing element cycling (e.g. carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus) in forest soils.
Research goals
- To deepen the understanding of biogeochemistry of forest soils in different environments.
- To improve the insights into human impacts, such as land-use, management, climate change and nitrogen deposition on biogeochemical processes.
Research areas
- Soil carbon stocks and greenhouse gas emissions
- Sustainable management of forest soils
- Assessments of impacts of environmental changes and pollution
- Cycling of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus in terrestrial ecosystems
- Organic phosphorus dynamics (ERC Consolidator project.
Furthermore, the unit Biogeochemistry of Forest Soils is engaged in under- and postgraduate education and environmental monitoring. The unit is responsible for the Swedish Forest Soil Inventory and The national assessments of greenhouse gas emissions from land-use.
