RESEARCH PROJECT

DigiGuard project

KEY POINTS
  • Our project aims to develop and validate an automated computational tool to monitor and prevent the transmission of bacteria causing mastitis on dairy farms.
  • The sensor-based tool will help reduce the incidence of mastitis, improve animal health and welfare and reduce the use of antibiotics.
  • The expected results of this project will contribute to increased profitability and digitalization for Swedish dairy farmers.

Short summary

Background

Automated data collection and decision making in precision farming (PLF) is currently of great help to many dairy farmers. Real-time location systems (RTLS) can be used to a much greater extent than today to control the spread of disease on dairy farms. Mastitis is the most common production disease in dairy herds and can lead to significant economic losses.

About the project

Our project aims to develop and validate an automated computational tool to monitor and prevent the transmission of bacteria causing mastitis on dairy farms.

Aims

The knowledge generated on the spread of these bacteria will improve control protocols on dairy farms. The sensor-based tool will help reduce the incidence of mastitis, improve animal health and welfare and reduce the use of antibiotics. The expected results of this project will contribute to increased profitability and digitalization for Swedish dairy farmers.
