Short summary
The purpose of this PhD project is to investigate current practices in the diagnosis and treatment of equine endometritis in Sweden (and other Scandinavian countries), and to develop guidelines for practitioners.
Equine endometritis is one of the most common and costly causes of fertility problems in horses. Despite its common occurrence, many aspects of this condition, or series of conditions, are under-researched.
This PhD project will cover diagnosis, treatment and prevention in Sweden, with particular emphasis on mare welfare and antimicrobial resistance. The prevalence of one particular condition, contagious equine endometritis in Sweden will be studied, with a view to examining the effectiveness of existing measures to prevent its transmission. This part of the project will be done in conjunction with the National Veterinary Agency (SVA). The whole project will be done in conjunction with clinicians and equine practitioners throughout Sweden.
