Short summary

The overall goal of this project is to identify the potential mechanisms and their relative roles in driving the population dynamics of Golden Eagles on Gotland, so as to assess their population viability, and to achieve a better general understanding of mechanisms driving populations and species level processes on large human dominated islands.

The specific objectives of the project are to quantify:

  1. The individual and geographic variation in demographic parameters across the territories on the island.
  2. The relative importance of anthropogenic and ecological mechanisms - disturbance, diet, and inter - and intra-specific competition, in driving the variation in demographic parameters across territories and individuals.
  3. The extent of genetic variation within the population to assess connectivity, dispersal and the extent of inbreeding depression.B
  4. Based on 1-3, predict the viability of Gotland GE population to sustain stochastic events and future environmental change.

Project members are Navinder Singh, Göran Spong, Benjamin Lindberg, SLU, and Christian Emilsson and Johan Månsson, Länsstyrelsen Gotland.
