Short summary
The Swedish food system is facing several crises, such as geopolitical conflicts, economic uncertainty, and climate change. To battle these pluricrises, farms need to be prepared and resilient. However, a dilemma frequently arises as trade-offs emerge: prioritising preparedness may compromise farm resilience or vice versa.
This project integrates preparedness and resilience, shifting the status quo from trade-offs to synergies through sustainable innovations. The project’s overall aim is to assess farm preparedness and resilience to climate change and extreme weather events and identify preparedness-resilience synergies through innovations and novel business models.
The project willl 1) develop novel indicators to measure preparedness and resilience; 2) assess farm resilience and preparedness to extreme weather events and climate change; 3) identify innovations for preparedness-resilience synergies; 4) design sustainable farm business models and policy recommendations.I integrate knowledge from psychology, innovation science, agricultural economics, socio-ecological resilience thinking, and sustainability science to reflect the social, economic, and environmental components of preparedness and resilience. Research outcomes will inform policies, such as the Swedish food preparedness strategy.
