Lab interior
In Svea’s nutrient lab, water samples are analysed as part of the vessel’s onboard chemistry work

Nutrient laboratory

Page reviewed:  25/06/2025

The nutrient laboratory is specialised in the quantitative analysis of nutrients in seawater – a key component of environmental monitoring and ecosystem research.

This is where concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds, silicates, and other substances that influence productivity in marine environments are measured.

Please note: Not all laboratory equipment is part of the vessel’s standard instrumentation. The equipment is owned by SMHI, accredited by SWEDAQ, and may only be used by prior agreement with SMHI. Please contact us well in advance of your expedition.

Equipment and capabilities:

  • Autoanalysers – for continuous flow analysis
  • Refrigerators
  • Purified water system
