Field-adapted laboratory space with direct access to the sea for sampling.
The wet lab is Svea’s main workspace for handling samples – particularly plankton, water and sediment. The lab is located close to the working deck and the CTD hangar, allowing for rapid processing and distribution of samples directly after collection.
Please note: Not all laboratory equipment is part of the vessel’s standard instrumentation. Some equipment is owned by SMHI and may only be used by special agreement. Please contact us well in advance of your expedition.
Features and equipment:
- Nets (WP2, WP3), plankton net (10 µm mesh), hose for depth-integrated sampling (0–10 m)
- Secchi disk
- Flowing seawater supply
- Drainage system with sediment traps for environmentally safe handling of residual water
- Water samplers of various sizes for cable deployment, e.g. for bottom water sampling
