Floating University on board R/V Svea – applications now open for the summer course
Would you like hands-on experience of marine research at sea? This summer, MSc and PhD students can join a Floating University on board R/V Svea, gaining practical training in modern methods for marine ecosystem research within the EU project AQUARIUS.
Over five intensive days, from 29 June to 3 July 2026, participants will receive hands-on training in contemporary methods for monitoring fish and benthic fauna. The course focuses on non-lethal methods that minimise impacts on the studied ecosystems, including hydroacoustics and video-based survey methods.
Teaching takes place both on board R/V Svea and at SLU’s Institute of Marine Research in Lysekil.
Who can apply?
The course is open to MSc and PhD students in marine-related disciplines enrolled at European universities. A total of 17 places are available.
The Floating University is fully funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe programme and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU). Accommodation and meals are included according to the course schedule, and travel reimbursement of up to €400 can be applied for after the course.
