PhD course: Research funding proposals with a multi-, inter- or transdisciplinary approach

The course "Research funding proposals with a multi-, inter- or transdisciplinary approach" is part of the research school Social Science Perspectives on Sustainable Development (SSPSD) at the Department of Economics.

Content

The course starts with an introduction to multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary research. Then the participants will get an opportunity to read and reflect on a sample of granted multi-, inter-, or transdisciplinary research proposals and identify and discuss the quality of selected proposals. Finally, participants will work together in small groups and across academic disciplines to suggest a design of a research project, which is based on collaboration between the disciplines.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to:

  • Identify the main differences between multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary research;
  • Identify examples of research questions that require a multi-, inter-, or transdisciplinary approach;
  • Assess the degree and type of multi-, inter-, or transdisciplinary in research proposals;
  • Critically reflect on how to design a research project which is based on collaboration between academic disciplines
