MACRO in FOCUS is a modelling tool based on the MACRO model that is used in risk assessments for new substances in the EU pesticide registration process.

MACRO in FOCUS is a shell program that links the model to Microsoft Access databases containing the required parameter inputs was written specially for the FOCUS applications.

MACROinFOCUS 5.5.4 is a new version of the tool and is based on MACRO 5.2. The new version is now available on FOCUS webbpage where you also can find more information about the tool.

A new version of MACRO in FOCUS is under development and all surface water scenarios have been updated on request by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority). A quality control of this work is currently underway within EFSA and will continue in 2026.

MACRO in FOCUS is also used by the Swedish Chemicals Agency for product approval in Sweden and is then applied to three Swedish groundwater scenarios. CKB has worked with updates of the scenarios: 

  • The 20-year climate data series for the scenarios has been changed so that the evaluation period now extends from 2001 to 2020. 
  • More crops have been added so that all crops can now be simulated in all three scenarios.

In 2026, we will perform a larger number of model simulations, with the aim of investigating how the updates affect predicted concentrations before the changes wcome into effect.
