Application of current parasite control recommendations by horse owners
A survey of Swedish horse owners to map how they keep their horses and handle their manure during different seasons.
Background
Current recommendations on how to prevent and control parasites in horses are based on regular faecal sampling and selective deworming combined with measures to reduce the manure burden in horse paddocks. It is unclear to what extent these recommendations are followed by Swedish horse owners and whether there are practical obstacles to their implementation. Changes in horse husbandry may have made the advice inconsistent with reality and as the whole strategy for parasite control in Swedish horses depends on the application of the recommendations, this needs to be investigated.
Goal
The proposed thesis is conducted as a survey of Swedish horse owners to map how they keep their horses and handle their manure during different seasons.
Project description
If time allows, the survey can be complemented by group interviews with volunteer respondents.
Specifications
The thesis is suitable for a veterinary student. Welcome with your application!
