Mini-guts, more correctly called organoids, are living models of organs. The aim of this thesis is to culture organoids from the jejunum, caecum and colon and to optimize a protocol for this.
Project description
The key to successful organoid culture is access to fresh material. During practice surgeries, we will take a piece of intestinal tissue for organoid culture.
A secondary goal is to infect organoids with infective larval stages of cyathostomins and roundworms to understand which part and how the parasite larvae penetrate the gut. We believe that this new knowledge will lead to the development of new drugs or vaccines against parasitic worm infections.
