Aquatic unit
We have stock populations of adult Zebrafish (Danio rerio), West-african clawed-frog (Xenopus (Silurana) tropicalis) and Great pond snail (Lymnaea stagnalis).
From all the species, embryos can be retrieved for a variety of scientific studies. Studies in adult fish and frogs require ethical permits. Our research is focused on applied ecotoxicology and includes field sampling of biota, on site studies of contaminated waters and laboratory hazard evaluations of environmental samples and chemicals.
Methods
We perform toxicity tests on all the organisms, primarily using accepted standardized protocols (OECD TG), such as:
- Embryo toxicity studies
- Whole life-cycle exposure
- Sexual development and reproduction
- Amphibian metamorphosis assay
- Behaviour studies
Connected services:
- Histopathology
- Analytical chemistry
- RNA-expression analyses
