Course package

The package suits students who are interested in ecology, marine biology and limnology (freshwater biology) and prepares them for work in nature conservation, fish conservation or fish management.

Two courses + thesis = one academic year

The package starts in September with Ecology for Fish Management and Conservation which provides you with knowledge on fish ecology and management of natural resources in seas, lakes and watercourses. In this course you will also apply your new knowledge on fish ecology in ongoing management and conservation projects.

In November, you continue with Principles of Fisheries Science and learn more about what is needed for sustainable fisheries and for a wise fisheries management. You learn how data collection, biological analyses and stock assessments are performed and how they inform scientific advice for ecosystem-based fisheries management.

For January, you can apply to a degree project which finishes in June. The project is focused on a research question, which may concern the most diverse aspects of aquatic ecosystems and their management. Subjects span from fish, seabirds, shellfish, marine mammals or other aquatic organisms, for instance in connection with the development of more selective fishing gears, genetics, diet studies, behavioural ecology or sustainable fisheries management.

Our experts – your teachers

The education package is directed towards both Swedish and international students. It is provided by the Department of Aquatic Resources, where scientists, environmental analysts and doctoral students actively conduct research on, e.g., aquatic ecology, sustainable fisheries, climate change, marine spatial planning and fish genetics.
