Forest Economics
The scientific Journal of Forest Economics was founded by, what can be described as a legend within the Department, Sören Wibe in 1994. The editorial work still emanates from the Department.
The UN and Forests
The department contributes to the work of the UNECE/FAO Team of Specialists on Sustainable Forest Products, an international expert forum that supports the development of sustainable markets for forest products and a circular bioeconomy. The team is led by Professor Francisco X Aguilar from the department.
Through its participation, the department contributes research-based knowledge and expertise on innovation, the sustainable use of forest resources, and the analysis of emerging trends and policy developments in the forest sector. This engagement also provides opportunities to disseminate research findings, strengthen international networks and contribute to evidence-based decision-making for sustainable forest management.
Sustainable development in Africa
Through various collaborations involving nomadic cattle herders, small-cacao farmers, and young forest entrepreneurs and activists and researchers in different countries in Africa the Department of Forest Economics at SLU assists in combating climate change and infrastructural infringement facing millions of Africans.
