Jonas Bååth appointed associate professor
IMS researcher Jonas Bååth has been accepted as an associate professor in sociology at Uppsala University. He will celebrate with champagne but has not yet given his associate professor lecture.
– Since I have been accepted as an associate professor at Uppsala University, I have not yet given my associate professor lecture, since the tradition there, unlike SLU, is that you give your associate professor lecture after being accepted as an associate professor. It is therefore more like an installation lecture. I think it will be about making sociological thinking relevant within business economics and interdisciplinary research, but I have not really started to refine the content yet, says Jonas Bååth.
How does it feel?
– It is of course great fun and something I have been working to achieve for a long time. The most important meaning for me personally is that I now get to be the main supervisor for doctoral students, which has also been one of the most important motivations for me along the way. After my doctoral studies, it was not at all obvious that I would continue in research – so much so that I completed the lion's share of my secondary school teacher training before returning to the world of research. The associate professorship is therefore a nice testament to the fact that I made the right decision.
– The path from doctor to associate professor easily appears as an individual achievement, but many other people are very crucial to that path. It is of course difficult to name everyone, but in addition to my family, I would especially like to thank Nicklas Neuman, Christian Fuentes, Tora Holmberg, Karl Bergman, Henrik Fürst and Sara Spendrup for important support and input along the way. I hope to be able to repay their help by assisting others with the ambition to become associate professors.
How will you celebrate?
– I always celebrate my successes with champagne among my loved ones, says associate professor Jonas Bååth.
