Women of BIOGEOMON 2026: Shaping the Future of Science

Page reviewed:  06/07/2026

At BIOGEOMON 2026, the Women in Science session created a space for reflection, connection, and inspiration across career stages in environmental research. The session was led by Professor Doerthe Tetzlaff, who shared insights from her academic journey, highlighting the importance of resilience, mentorship, and leadership in science.

Bringing together students, early-career researchers, and established scientists, the discussion encouraged open exchange on career development, challenges in academia, and the importance of representation in shaping scientific pathways.

The session underscored a broader message: the strength of environmental science depends on diverse perspectives, supportive networks, and visible role models who help others thrive.

BIOGEOMON remains committed to fostering these values and supporting the next generation of leaders in environmental science.

As Professor Tetzlaff reminded us:

“The future of science needs diverse voices, strong role models, and women who are not afraid to take up space.”
