Our designated contact for education at the Forest faculty is Ola Lindroos, vice dean.

Our work is almost 75 percent research. In a university so intensely focused on research there are ample opportunities for doctoral education. SLU produces some 100 Ph. D’s every year, and as of 2025, there are 600 active doctoral students.

At the forest faculty, basic and applied research is carried out both in Sweden and abroad, through collaborations with universities, government bodies and organisations.

Contact persons for questions regarding doctoral education are Göran Spång and Charlotta Bergström

SLU’s forest research is world class according to several international rankings. Our goal is an increased knowledge and awareness of a sustainable use of the natural resource that is the forest. The research conducted at the faculty’s departments is basic as well as applied research, in close collaboration with the users, i.e. different parts of the forest sector.

The research spans a wide register: from action-oriented resource management to basic research on environmental monitoring. Every year we produce 20 or so Ph. D’s. We collaborate closely with other research institutions; domestically and internationally.

Further information on our research programs is available from the respective departments. For questions about research at SLU in general, contact our research secretary Ulrika Ganeteg.

Ongoing environmental analysis is a government assignment to SLU, unique among Swedish universities and colleges. The environmental objectives work is split up into twelve programs for environmental analysis, bringing together SLU’s skills in each respective area.

The programs are also related to Sweden’s international environmental objectives collaborations, and the work with the global sustainability goals.

The forest faculty is home for the following environmental analysis programsForest

Riksskogstaxeringen (NFI) is also a government assignment within environmental analysis, started all the way back in 1923.

Designated contacts for environmental analysis at the forest faculty are Pernilla Christensen, vice dean for environmental analysis and Elisabeth Nyström, secretary of the environmental analysis board.
